I'm coding again

I’m starting to code again. And I like it.

I have another post coming soon titled, “I’m Bored”. It covers a path across my career searching for that “it” thing that I hoped (for too long) a job would answer.

Spoiler: the job(s) never did.

I’m coding again. I’m creating again. And it feels amazing! This post may feel very out of place for this blog (or maybe it won’t), but short-version of the story is…I’ve been an AppSec engineer for the past 5 years and it hasn’t been a great experience. To be honest, my time as a software engineer for 6 years before that wasn’t all that great either. To be honest, life in corporate tech just hasn’t felt great, well…ever.

I’ve dabbled in making content for YouTube and TikTok over the past few years. It’s been a great learning experience, but I was never sure what I wanted it to be. So, it’s kind of meandered for the past couple years. Last year, I started diving back into side projects though.

Just look at my GitHub contributions. But this year I had some great life changes, but also…I really wasn’t sure where any of this was headed. So, I hit a slump.

Compared to last year’s GitHub graph…

Well, I know now.

I’m creating:

  • A Python course: Python for AppSec
  • A recipes app (for keeping your grocery budget in control)
  • A vehicle maintenance app (for repairing and maintaining vehicles)
  • A GitHub inventory system (to fill GitHub’s feature gaps)
  • A YouTube channel for coding, right-to-repair, owning your tech, and showing how tech can augment our life—not rule it.

I’m making a business out of this. I’m tired of the corporate grind (again, more to come on this). And I’m tired of leaving this passion projects to wane on lonely GitHub repos. I’m embracing programming as my core professional passion. I’m stepping into photography/cinematography as one of my hobbies. And I’m leaning into my creative talents I’ve been putting off since I was a kid.

I’m coding again. I’m creating videos again. And, I’m really enjoying it.

More to come.
